Church Bay cabin: sunny, great views | Cottage in Diamond Harbour

Our sunny cabin in Church Bay is just 40 minutes drive from Christchurch, with plenty of outdoor adventures to be had here. We are close to beaches, mountains, a canyon and a country park. We would suggest at least a 2- or 3-night stay, with a suggested itinerary of Day One: Orton Bradley Park or a local beach (little known to tourists!), Day Two: walking up Mt Herbert or a boat trip to Quail Island, Day Three: exploring the pretty village of Diamond Harbour or checking out the quirky town of Lyttelton.

The cabin is fully self-contained, in a studio-room layout. It includes a kitchenette and a small bathroom. There is a deck to admire the views. We live in a house on the adjoining section, so we are available when needed.

Church Bay (and the neighbouring Diamond Harbour) are quiet semi-rural communities. There is one café, The Diamond Harbour Eatery and Bar, open daily 9am to 6pm, Thurs, Fri, Sat open 9am to late. There is a small supermarket "Four Square" at the bottom of our road (open daily 7am to 7pm). Orton Bradley Park (5km away) offers extensive walking and biking tracks and a lovely cafe (open Wednesdays to Sundays - summer only).

We are well-located for multi-day walks on the Banks Peninsula, including the Packhorse Hut and the Rod Donald Hut. Why not stay a night with us at either end of some tramping (leaving your big luggage securely with us); we can pick up and drop you off by pre-arrangement. We are also ideally situated for walking up Mount Herbert, the largest mountain on the Banks Peninsula. This walk takes approx. 6 hours round-trip. There are also local, shorter walks, including the cliff track walk, which offers spectacular views. There are at least two beaches within walking distance.

The passenger ferry from Diamond Harbour to Lyttelton is 3km away (30 mins walk) and the journey takes 8 minutes. There is a direct bus route from Lyttelton into Christchurch city centre.
